Kumasi Airport is now Prempeh I International Airport. GACL says the airport was declared an international airport in 2003 primarily for regional operations and that it is currently served by two domestic carriers: Africa World Airlines and PassionAir. For travelers, the useful takeaway is that Kumasi is not a tiny informal strip; it is a major domestic-air gateway into the Ashanti Region, with ongoing airport expansion context.

Tamale is now Yakubu Tali International Airport. GACL says all flights to and from Tamale moved to the new terminal from July 29, 2023 as part of gradual migration and testing, and that the new terminal was designed for annual passenger throughput of 400,000. Tamale is especially important for northern Ghana routes because the road distance from Accra can drain a short itinerary.

Domestic flying in Ghana is not a reason to arrive at the airport at the last minute. Africa World Airlines says ticket-counter check-in passengers should arrive at least two hours before departure and not later than 40 minutes before departure, and that domestic passengers must present a valid physical government-issued ID. AWA conditions of carriage also say domestic passengers may need to produce identification such as a driver license, National Health Insurance card, or voter ID card, while passports are required for international travel.
